Our society is undergoing a dramatic transformation, social and ethical culture isalso undergoing a transition from a traditional ethical culture to a modern ethicalculture, in this regard, school education needs some changes to respond to the situation.Textbook is an important carrier of ethical culture, and it’s an important pointer to guidethe development of new human generation,so how to make the primary and secondarytextbooks actively respond to the development of ethical culture from a perspective ofsocial transformation would be a question worth consideration.From the context of social transformation, especially from a perspective of appliedethics, the paper investigates the modern situation of globalization, market-orientedtrend, networking, and discusses how to deal with the changes of ethical culture throughschool textbooks. On this basis, taking a number of primary and secondary textbookspublished by the People’s Education Publishing House for example, the paper conductsan in-depth analysis of the ethical content in the existing primary and secondary schooltextbooks, and then gives some suggestions.This article includes three parts as follows:The first part: Introductory. It explains the background of the theme, in which thepresent conditions of the study, the value of the research and research methods involved.The second part is main body. Here the article extends itself in four sections.The fist one analyses some key concepts in the paper, namely “social transfor-mation”,“ethical culture” and “teaching material”.The second one explores the major factors in the change of ethical culture,such asmarket-oriented trend, globalization, networking.Here the essay points out the contentand requirements of the modern ethical culture.The third one analyses the ethical transformation of real life from the four aspects including life ethics, community ethics, natural ethics and faith ethics.The fourth one selects a number of primary and secondary materials (textbooks)published by the People’s Education Publishing House to carry out a case study, on thisbasis, the correlation between the teaching materials and the ethical culture changes canbe found. Then the paper proposes a number of recommendations to improve the ethicaland cultural content in school textbooks, in order to adapt to the new ethicalrequirements in the period of social transition.The third part: Conclusion. The part gives a review of the discussion in the paper,and summaries some problems on the topic required further study.
