High quality education wouldn’t be shared by students without high quality teachers. Teachers’professional development level is the main factor which influences the quality of education. High school education plays an important role in the national educational system. Foreign language education in high school aims to intensify the students’foreign language foundation, and prepare them for entering a college, hunting for jobs and obtaining life-long development. Thus foreign language education has become the substantial matter in quality-education. At present, English teachers’professional status and value hasn’t been completely acknowledged. English teachers’professional standards and qualification need to be properly certificated. It’s necessary to build healthy environment and system for English teachers’professional development. Therefore, the research on high school English teachers’professional development remains to be further widened and deepened.The thesis specially and systematically deals with the problem with high school English teachers’professional development. Knowledge on pedagogy, administration and sociology is applied to comb the related theories. Based on the writer’s teaching experience, an investigation is carried out to dig out the real situation of high school English teachers’professional development by means of interviews, questionnaire and so on. It also analyses some elements that affect professional development. Afterwards, some measures and tactics are brought out in order to promote high school English teachers’professional development.The article consists of five parts. Part one which is the introductory remarks explains the reason of choosing this research topic, the aim of doing the research and the studying method. Part two introduces some related definitions on teachers’professional development, like senior high school English teachers’professional development, its meaning and feature. In senior high schools, English teaching differs from that in primary school and college due to different teaching tasks and learners. Thus senior high school English teachers’professional development should be based on the core of the teaching task and aim. Part three describes the present professional development conditions of senior high school English teachers. A few problems exist, like out-dated teaching theory, single and boring teaching method, weak motivation for professional development. What’s more, English teachers’education and vocational training are still weak.Part four analyses the cause of the present teachers’professional development situation from several angles."Time-consuming" and "low-efficiency" are two problems that embrace English teaching. Personally, the main reason for this is that professional development level for most high school English teachers is still inferior. Many elements result in this, which include social politics, economy, test-oriented education, teachers’ payment, educational administration and English teachers’professional self-recognition and so on.Part five presents the problem-solving tactics and measures. To solve these problems, Many measures can be taken by the Educational authorities and school management staff, who can act as spiritual leaders by helping English teachers better understand their work and life. Besides, to innovate in high school English teaching assessment and create a healthy environment for teachers’professional development are of great importance. To change the educational fiscal investment based on county into on province for some high schools, to raise teachers’payment and increase their feelings of job contentment can also promote English teachers’professional development and raise their professional development level, and English teachers can ultimately conduct English quality education.
