As for primary and secondary students, reading is not only a branch of Chinese subject and a learning method, but also an effective way for them to communicate with their own minds and absorb knowledge of both humanities and science so as to construct a complete knowledge system and enrich their spiritual world. With the issue and deepening of the recent New Curriculum, the situation of traditional way of teaching, which is based on textbooks only or mainly, is changing step by step. Many knowledgeable and farsighted teachers begin to realize the importance of students’extracurricular education. They start to encourage their students to collect ideas, information and knowledge from a wider world. As for students of the new times, they are not content to the in-class learning any more, but are expecting more fresh put-ins every day. In this case, extracurricular reading becomes a most important bridge between all sources of information and every individual student.Nowadays, the reading environment is becoming more complex than before---an explosive world of information. This world is now challenging our traditional book reading and educators’authoritative guide. There is lots of Scientific and cultural knowledge and reports about our society which we expect our students to know in this all-inclusive information world, however, we can’t ignore the vulgar trash it brings us.Educators are facing a more complex issue on extracurricular reading now. Several problems are left to be solved:How to re-examine students’extracurricular reading from the two following perspectives:teaching and educating? How to observe the new extracurricular reading forms and ways? How to construct a beneficial reading environment which is made up of school, family, community and network for our students?...
