Middle School Students' Idea Of A Father, Mother Image Research

The paper attemps to study the realistic father image, the ideal father image, the realisticmother image and the ideal mother image from the perspective of the middle schoolstudents.From the paper,we can learn the image perceptions and image expectations of fathersand mothers in middle school students’ mind so as to provide reference for parents to improvetheir quality, shaping the new parent image.The120descriptive words(30for every image) are selected after351middle schoolstudents doing the open-ended questionnaires,after which601middle school students made5assessment. The results showed that:(1)The realistic father image can be divided into7dimensions as follows, positivecharacter traits, negative image,the negative treatment to their children, the treatment to theirfamily, bad habits, and positive treatment to their children, appearance; The ideal father imagecan be divided into6dimensions as follows, positive character traits, positive treatment to theirchildren, treatment to their family, good habits, appearance and social life skills; The realisticmother image can be divided into5dimensions as follows, positive character traits, the treatmentto their family, the treatment to their children, the appearance and the negative image; The idealmother image can be divided into6dimensions as follows, positive character traits, positivetreatment to their children,the treatment to their family,appearance and treatment tothemselves..(2)The middle school girls have the more positive evaluation on the dimensions of fathers’positive character traits and appearance,besides the middle school girls have higher expectationson fathers’ actively treatment to their children and treatment to their family;while the middleschool boys tend to think that the fathers have negative image and unhealthy habits,besides themiddle boys have more negative evaluation on the dimension of the mothers’ treatment to theirchildren but a higher evaluation on the mothers’ appearance.(3)The urban middle students have higher evaluation and expectations on the fathers’positive character traits and higher expectation on the dimensions of mothers’ positive charactertraits,positive treatment to their children,social life skills.(4)Compared with the Grade2High School students, the eighth-grade students havehigher expectations on fathers’ appearance; removing the ninth-grade students did not reach the significant difference, the Grade2High School students have lower expectations on fathers’treatment to the family than other students;the seventh grade students and the Grade1HighSchool students have higher expectations on th dimension of the mothers’ treatment to theirfamilye compared with the Grade2High School students.(5)The realistic father image, the ideal father image, the realistic mother image and theideal mother image in the middle school students’ mind divided differently;the assessments on asame word are also different as follows: The realistic father image&the ideal father image andthe realistic mother image&the ideal mother has extremely significant differences;the realisticfather image&the realistic mother image and the ideal father image&the ideal mother image havesignificant differences on most words.
