The Relationship Between Depression Among Junior High School Students, The Transmission Of Father Image By Mothers, And The Father-son Relationshi

Father-son affection has a huge impact on children.Father-son affection is not only beneficial to the level of paternity,but also helps children grow up healthily.The father-son relationship is not only a series of consequences,but also influenced by many other factors,such as the mother’s transmission of the father image and the adolescents’ own depression.Taking junior high school students as research objects,this paper explores the transmission of father image by mother,the relationship between depression and father-son affection,the influence of mother’s management and content on father image transmission on father-son affection,the mediating role of depression in the process of mother’s transmission of father image on father-son affection,and the moderating role of gender and parents’ marital status in this process.In this study,1095 junior high school students from two schools in Dezhou City,Shandong Province were selected as subjects using the Patient Health Questionnaire(PHQ-9),the subscale of Father-son Affection in the Father Presence Scale,and the Scale of Mother-to-father image Transmission.The results are as follows:(1)The transmission of father image by mothers is significantly negatively correlated with depression,positively correlated with father-son affection,and negatively correlated with depression.(2)Depression plays a partial mediating role in mother’s management of father image transmission and father-son affection.(3)Depression plays a partial mediating role in the content conveyed by mothers to fathers and in the process of father-son affection.(4)Marital status plays a moderating role in the process of depression affecting father-son affection.Compared with the children of married parents,the depression of divorced parents has a stronger negative correlation with father-son affection.(5)Gender plays a moderating role in the process of maternal image transfer management affecting father-son affection.Compared with male students,female mothers’ father image management is more closely related to children’s and father’s affection.The conclusion of this study is as follows: the transmission of the father image by the mother can directly affect the father-son emotion,and also indirectly affect the father-son emotion through the child’s depression.For the divorced parents,depression had a greater negative effect on the father-son relationship;Compared with boys,mothers’ management of father image can promote girls’ relationship with their fathers better.This study provides empirical data for exploring the transmission of mother’s father image and the relationship and path of father-son affection,which is conducive to providing theoretical guidance for the practice of improving father-son affection.
