No matter how perfect the teacher’s instruction is, it will never replace the student’s active learning and only students can play the principal part in learning. However, when entering the class, we can hardly find the expectations. In opposite, students are not involved widely; meanwhile individual student is not involved deeply. Thus, the study on the student participation in class makes significance so as to make the class an active platform for all of the students. Through combed the motivation, conditions, contents and effects of participation in the past study, we found that the studies focused on the investigation of the present situation and put forward the education strategy for students’ class participation. But the analysis of the reason was not deep and systematic; it did not regard the class participation as a fully involved process. Based on the traditional and previous studies, this one will contain three main parts to explore students’ participation in class. The first part is mainly about the observation and analysis of students’ participation in current class. The study picked students from grade seven in a junior middle school of Shanghai as observation object. The observation content includes three aspects. They are teaching state, students’ performance in class and teaching strategy. Use different kinds of observation scales to observe the classes, students and teachers, in order to get first-hand information about the situation of students’ participation in class. Then classify the students’ participation types. The second part, based on the participate state of different students, the thesis analyzes the reasons behind students’ passive behaviors in class. Combined with the theory of motivation, constructivist as well as communication theory, re-examines students’ participation in class and mainly explores the problems in class participation. It can accommodate teachers and students with more scientific and systematic reference value. The third part regards students’ participation in class as a full participation process. And explore the effective approaches to participation based on teachers and students. Only when we comprehensively hold the targets that teachers and students need to achieve in each period, can the class be more active and lively.
