It can be traced back to1917when Golf was introduced to China by the opening of the“Hongqiao Golf Association”. In the middle of1980s, golf was revival in China andconsidered as the product of the reform and opening-up policy. In1985, the National SportsCommission issued a notice “Develop golf in three regions: Beijing, Dalian and Guangdong”.Now twenty years has passed, China golf club has become mature and stable through atortuous course of development.Modern golf was introduced from the United Kingdom. Golf club has characteristicsincluding complex out-line, versatile, emphasis on detail and high demands on the image ofthe construction. Since most of the golf club buildings in China are designed by abroadarchitect, the architectural style, building feature, spatial layout is not specific to thegeographical, social and cultural characteristics of the natural environment. In general, mostof the golf clubs in China did not reflect the regional building’s architectural features.Golf club is growing fast in Guangdong. From the number of terms, the number ofGuangdong Golf Club has occupied1/5of the total number in the country. Most of themdistribute in economically developed Pearl River Delta region. It has practical significance forstudying how to reflect the regional characteristics in the architectural design according to thegeographical environment, climate, culture and other specific conditions of the Pearl RiverDelta region.In this paper, the architectural design elements and methods of golf club in the PearlRiver Delta is studied. The study is focus on the geographical characteristics of thearchitectural design. It is base on the induction and analysis of literatures, examples analysisand hands-on works on real project.The paper is organized as follows:Part one is the description the problem. It generally decrypts the content of the wholepaper, including the background of the research, its aim and the significance, research’scontent and object, method and the frame work of the research. Part two and part three are the analysis to the problem. The development of golf and golfclub, the geographical characteristics of the architectural design and the definition of golfclub in the Pearl River Delta region will be decrypted in part two. Part three analyzes theelements which influent the regional characteristics of the golf club in the Pearl River Deltaregion.Part four is the solution to the problem. Base on the research of several typical,outstanding golf clubs in the Pearl River Delta region. It analyzes and explores theirgeographical characteristics of the architectural design.Part five combines the theoretic and the practice. It analyzes and summaries the methodto design a golf club which can embody the geographical characteristics of the Pearl RiverDelta regionThe final part is the conclusion.
