With the rapid expansion of the enrollment scale of HigherEducation, the proportion of the female graduates in the overall isbecoming bigger and bigger. As the statistical data from the EducationDepartment about graduate admissions in2009, the proportion of thefemale graduates surpassed50%. And there is a big differencebetween the majors of liberal arts and those of Science andEngineering on that proportion. In many majors of liberal arts, theproportion of the female graduates is up to80%. How to deal with theemployment pressure of the female graduates in majors of liberal arts isa vital issue which hotly discussed by all stripes.Find the effective ways to solve that problem can not only takemeasures to change the economic environment or employmentpolicies, we also have to figure out how the experience of theirgraduate life affects their career choice. Is there any other factors playa key role when they make their choices? Do they get a whole pictureof their strengths and weaknesses? How about their occupationalexpectation? Are there any common features when they make theircareer choice? This is a qualitative study which makes interviews with8female graduate students who will graduate from university in2012andfrom different majors. And the study focuses on the span from the timethey entranced the school to the time they hunt for a job. I am trying topresent how their graduate life affects their career choice, such as theiremotion, self-cognition and their job applications. Furthermore, I willconclude the key factors and key experience which affect their careerchoice, then sum up the features of their career choice. Also I will payattention to the problems came up in their interview and give somesuggestions to the future female graduate students in the majors ofliberal arts. This paper is divided to three blocks:The first one: This part includes the introduction of the researchbackground, the research significance and the clarifying of thedefinitions. The author reviewed the existing research papers andsummed up the four primary theories about career choice and theresearch status and research methods of female graduate students inmajor of liberal arts do their career choice. Then the author gives thereasons why it is necessary to do qualitative study on this problem. Atthe end of this part, the author discussed the qualitative researchmethod used in this study.The second one: In this part the author chose3representativeindividual cases from the8female students and analyses theirdemographic characteristics and their story about career choice. Theirnarration shows us their emotion, their preparation, their cognition andtheir final decisions of career. And the end of each case, the authorconclude the features of their career choice.The third one: This part is the conclusions and suggestions whichcome from the3individual’s cases. The author conclude the keyexperience and key factors affect their career choice, then sum up thecommon features about female graduate students’ career choice.
