A Survey On Practical Activities Of Liberal Arts Graduates'

Practice activities are a mandatory part in graduate students'training plan. It is necessary for post graduates to improve their practical abilities and even their overall qualities. Practical activities play a supplementary role in graduate students'research. However, I found that researches on liberal arts graduate students'practical activities are relatively limited. Therefore, I propose a systematic study and investigation in order to explore the present problems of liberal arts post-graduates' practical activities and try to provide useful suggestions.Qualitative and quantitative research methods are applied in this study. Meanwhile, a detailed explanation from practical and theoretical approach is presented, and a questionnaire, named "a questionnaire on the liberal arts students'participation in practical activities", and investigating their practical activities, in terms of the practice of teaching, research and practical activities as a whole, is carried out.516 liberal arts graduate students from different levels of colleges and universities of eastern, central and western regions in China take part in the survey. The results are as followed:First, generally speaking graduate students participate in practical activities well, but a certain part of it is not so good. In the aspect of teaching, research and social practice, their performances, to more positive and positive extend, are respectively 69.1%,66.2%,70.8% and 29.4%,32.4%,27.8%.Second, the achieved results on the post-graduate students practice are not optimistic. Graduate students, who participate in teaching, research and social practice activities in order to improve their teaching skills, research capacity, social practice, expressed their feelings of different degree of satisfaction. The extend goes down gradually from the most satisfied one, the middle and finally to the least. There are 52.7 percent with the most satisfaction; respectively,51.9% and 53.8% at the respective level; 49.1% 48.1% 43.7% general respectively; 7.3% dissatisfied and very dissatisfied, 3.9%,4.6% respectively dissatisfied. Third, graduate students'satisfaction towards school organized practical activities degree is not high. The specific numbers of the school-teaching, research and social practice individually take the whole part of 49.2,48.1 and 43.7; and the satisfied and the most satisfied parts are 32.8,35.land 41.5.Fourth, there exist organization and assessment problems. Post graduates share their different degree of satisfaction on teaching, research and social practice, and assessment. There are respectively 53.4,52.3, and 51.4 percent with general feeling satisfaction; the dissatisfied and very dissatisfied parts are 11.8%,14.4%,14.87% and satisfied and very satisfied 29.8%,33.3%,33.8%.Fifth, the real degree of practical activities which is submitted by post graduates is problematic. In the submitting aspects of teaching, research and social practice, the completely true numbers respectively take 22.5%,29.1%,26.2%; most real ones respectively 53.4%,50.9%,54.6%.Sixth, the specific post-graduate practice activities have shown different characteristics. Teaching practice owns a diversified trend that tutoring and teaching practice is the central focus and teaching assistants and other forms of teaching practice are effective complements. Research activities presents a trend that publishing papers, participating in academic conferences and research are the main focus, while making reports and other research activities are relatively less concerned; and social practice develops towards a diverse direction and with a personal bias.Seventh, there are significant differences exist in different regions when graduate students participate in practice activities.Based on the above findings, this study is on the impact factors of liberal arts graduate students' the current status of practice activities. The graduate students, content of practical, organization and management, assessment, liberal arts post-graduate training model are the main reasons that lead to the liberal arts post-graduates'negative attitudes. At the same time, proposals to improve liberal arts students are put forward. They are improving graduate students'self-awareness; adjusting the contents of post-graduate practical activities; reforming the management system of liberal arts graduate students'practice.; consummating the evaluating structure of liberal arts graduate students' practice and adjusting graduate training mode.A questionnaire, named "a questionnaire on the liberal arts students'participation in practical activities", investigate graduate practice, In-depth study on graduate practice neglected by college, enrich graduate teaching theory, exploring the establishment of practice for liberal arts graduate. students...
