Since the reform and opening up, China’s economy has sustained a rapid and steady growth. The total output of the economy ranks increasingly at the top of other countries in the world. The economic development of Hubei Province, which is one of the administrative regions of the country’s "Rise of Central China" strategic approach, has also made gratifying achievements. Education is closely linked to economic development, and higher vocational education (hereinafter referred to as the Higher Vocational Education) cultivates advanced technology talents to facilitate economic development in the lines of production, management and services. With the continuous economic development of Hubei Province, the transformation of the economic growth pattern and the adjustment of industrial structure, the higher vocational education is required to adapt to corresponding reform and development. Vocational educational goals must be to the economic development of Hubei Province needs-oriented, cultivating high-level talents with practical and professional skills. More and more attention has been paid to vocational education, and only by correctly understanding the relationship between higher vocational education and local economic development, can we have the dynamic role of vocational education to economic development realized and ensure the healthy and proper development of vocational education so as to serve the local economic development accordingly. We should also follow the law of the development of higher vocational education and local economy, making the two promote each other, integrate with each other to form a virtuous circle.This thesis takes Higher Vocational Education of Hubei Province and Hubei economic development indicators as the research subject, and focuses on the expatiation of the coordinated relationship between the two from the practical perspective. The introductive part including research background, literature review, research methodology, an overview of the research objectives and research content. The second chapter focus on theroy research. An empirical research of the coordination between the self-elements of Hubei Higher Vocational Education and local economic development, focusing on the research into the operating status of its self-elements and targets. The self-elements, includes Hubei Province vocational education institutions, vocational teachers and construction of specialties; targets operating conditions includes analysis of Hubei Province vocational education objectives, structure and process conditions, among which the structural condition of the study includes the level and professional structural analysis, and the process condition analysis includes that of enrollment, cultivating processes, employment and security conditions. It can be seen from the descriptive analysis that, the self-elements as well as their operation of Higher Vocational Education in Hubei Province are in a situation of relatively coordinated and smooth development. However, there are many areas for improvement in the process of development, for instance, vocational education objectives need to be more clear, the internal structure needs further adjustment, operations need to be further standardized and protection mechanisms need to be further improved. The empirical research of the coordination between Higher Vocational Education of Hubei Province and local economic development, including the discussion on the scale of Hubei Province vocational education, the growth rate of higher vocational education and the comparison of vocational education structure and industrial structure, and the analysis of the coordination between the above three aspects and the state of economic development. During the process of analysis, the author uses SPSS statistical analysis tools and the Pearson correlation analysis tools. The results of the analysis show that, in the development process, the scale of Hubei Province vocational education, the growth rate and higher vocational education structure, as opposed to the national level, are at less coordinated level of development, which does not show a significant positive correlation with the economy of Hubei Province. Finally, faced with the problems risen from the development of Hubei vocational education, the author brings the following suggestions:Establishing new concepts about co-ordinating the development of Hubei higher vocational education, the establishment of effective government mechanisms involved in the establishment of higher vocational education coordinated development mechanismThe author attempts to provide some useful suggestions to promote the coordinated development of higher vocational education and the local economy in Hubei Province. The conclusion of sixth chapter includes main conclusions, innovation and research prospects.
