Background Music Research On College Students' Mental Health Course Teaching Effect

In the past two decades, as the mental health education getting mature gradually,the course of psychological education enjoyed a boom. The course’s content becomesincreasingly standardized, all-round and scientific, which plays a helping role in mentalhealth of college students. However, they are facing some problems, such as thedoctrinism of teaching content, the mechanization of teaching modes, and thesimplification of appraise subject, etc. These problems limited the teaching effect ofpsychological health course. Therefore, we need search for new element to enrich theclass and make it vivid as well as experiencing. It has been recognized that music ownsthe wonderful effect on human’s health, which could refine the mind, adjust the moodand raise the cognition. Although researchers begin to notice the positive influencewhich music could bring to mental health education, it always carry out in the form ofgroup counseling and music therapy and the empirical research combines music andmental health course seldom occurs.Based on the existed research, this study organizingly combines music with courseof psychological education in the method of experimental research. Four classes ofcollege students attending this course are chosen as object, and two classes of themreceive the course with music, and the others receive the course as traditional way. Theformer group is experimental group and the latter is controlled group. Besides, the twogroups keep uniform in teaching content, power point, time and environment. Inaddition, another80students who have never attend kind of mental health course ascontrolled group two. The experimental group and two controlled groups students areall tested on psychological health level before and after experiment, and also thestudents attending class are tested on mood, personal experience and behavior duringthe course. It aims to investigate how the music influence on the teaching effect ofmental health course. The research result show that:1. The Mental health course with background music could improve college students’mental health significantly. 2. The students attending class with background music could have more positivepersonal experience.3. The students who attending class with background music show more standardizedbehavior compared to the students attending traditional mental health courseOn the whole, the education intervention combining background and mental healthmakes better teaching effect.
