As the integration of Art and Design and the market is becoming closer andcloser in the modern world, vocational colleges should put much emphasis on itsapplication. The advertising design and production major in vocational colleges is noexception, whose course content and curriculum should be updated with the higherteaching demands. This paper proposes to open commercial projects practice coursefor advertising design and production major in the vocational colleges, analyses theimportant roles of this course played in the teaching and students and also studies andproves its feasibility, necessity and positive significance for school teaching. Thetheoretical basis of offering commercial projects practice course is the educationaltheory “Learning by Doing”, which was advocated by educator T’ao Hsing-chih.Taking Task Based Learning as the main teaching method, this theory uses practicalprojects to introduce new knowledge throughout the teaching process. Teachers usingthis theory will guide and assist students in completing these projects, then makeevaluations.Starting with the status analysis of the advertising design and production majorin recent vocational colleges, this paper analyses the nature, task, goal, primaryteaching content, teaching requirements and other aspects of commercial projectspractice course so as to present its effects, such as diverse teaching methods, rationalteaching achievements assessment, prominent combination of production and study,etc. It proves the necessity of offering commercial projects practice course to theadvertising design and production major in vocational colleges. It also attempts tointroduce some easily-operated projects with significant effects into the course. Andthe authentic tests mode will also be used to break the traditional virtual subjectsapplying model of conventional instructional design. The authentic tests mode allowsstudents to touch projects and understand the design procedures of strict commercialprojects through introducing real projects so as to make the senior students in thismajor integrate theory and practice effectively during the project design, improve thepractical ability of students and have a more accurate understanding of the attributesand functions of this professional, strengthen the design consciousness of students,thereby expanding their mental vitality, operating ability, reflection ability, self-studycompetence and other abilities. In this course, teachers will apply projects to guidestudents to gradually establish a creation workflow of commercial ads. Furthermore,through project design as well as the defence and evaluation of works, students willform a creative thought process that develops through ideas, thinking, then creationand rethinking on design objects and creation processes.For the advertising design and production major in vocational college, thecommercial projects practice course is not only an experimental research but also anecessary research. It should be stressed, however, that it can be offered only if thecollege, major support and other conditions are rip. It can not be opened blindly withthe crowd. This paper aims to enlighten the teachers in vocational colleges to rethinkprojects practice so as to make the links between teaching and major and industrymuch closer.
