The essence of his thoughts on life education is that he constantly stresses the importance of being a virtuous person and to build the characters of a gentleman. It includes the following stages:building the harmonious families and perfecting the characters; governing the whole country and transcending the life horizon. The views of natural life and the essence of life, as well as the life views within the families, the moral life views, and the manners of life complement each other and, when combined, constitute the ideal personality and the’essence of life height. In Confucius’s view, the life can be shaped and educated; what’s more, he believes that the pursuit of spiritual essence symbolizes the ultimate meaning of life.Confucius’s philosophical views concerning life have had profound and insightful effects upon the current life education, to be specific, the education of consciousness of survival and life responsibility, moral life cultivation and ultimate meaning of life. There is a long way to go for educators to excavate the essence of Chinese excellent traditional culture represented by Confucius’s philosophical views concerning life, and to educate university students effectively on life education.
