Research purpose:Monitoring changes of EEG and HRV of undergraduates who practice Health Qigong Baduan jin, this research aims at investigating the influences of long term practice on the activities of autonomic nerve and cerebral cortex and provides a theoretical basis for the fitness value of Baduanjin.Methods:Undergraduates were taken as experiment subjects and divided into observation group and control group. The16-channel EEG detection analyzer (NO. MEEG-903), production of Beijing Kelon Biomedical Technology Corporation, and Polar Exercise Heart Rate Monitor (NO. RS800) from Finland are used to detect EEC and HRV before and after first time practice and two month practice.Results:1. no obvious difference of EEG and HRV existed between two groups in quiet state before exercise;2.δ and α1wave power and average percentage of power of control group increased dramatically, while β wave power and average percentage of power decreased obviously. δ and α1wave power and average percentage of power of observation group increased dramatically whileβ wave power and average percentage of power decreased obviously.3. After eight-week practice, a1power of control group increased more dramatically the observation group while β wave power decreased more. The difference is not obvious between two groups in different part of brain, asa2wave in left the central area and (3wave in the right occipital region decreased.4. after one time practice, RMSSD of time domain control group increased significantly and RMSSD, PNN50of observation group increased significantly. TP and HF of frequency domain control group increased significantly while LF/HF decreased; LF and LF/HF of observation group decreased.5. HF of control group increased obviously after eight-week practice while LF/HF decreased;Conclusions:1. Eight-week practice of Baduanjin has obvious influence on frontal and temporal region. After one time practice, cerebral cortical neurons discharged more orderly and synchronously. This promotes self-coordination function of brain.2. Eight-week practice of Baduanjin is helpful for relaxation.3. After one time practice, low frequency of HRV decreased and high frequency increased, and the tenseness of the sympathetic nerve decreased while vagus nerve increased.4. Long term practice is helpful for improving the regulating ability of vagus nerve, its protective role for heart, the heart’s overall functional status and its Self-protection mechanism.
