In China, grammar teaching in English class has being considered as an important,difficult and popular issue, which is also one of the greatest concerns to ChineseEnglish learners. The traditional grammar teaching approach usually uses the threesteps of presentation, practice and production, which is characterized by too muchemphasis on the explanation of the grammar, great memories of the grammatical rulesand the repeated practice of the sentence structures. Although it is a little useful to thelanguage beginners, it results in the teacher-centered classroom which is rathermonotonous, static and boring, lacking of proactive communication between teachersand students. The students’ focus is only on the form of language learning withrepeated mechanical practice, but they can not really grasp the meaning of thelanguage so that their learning effect is not ideal.Aiming at the above grammar teaching problems, this paper mainly applies thetask-based language teaching method to the High School English grammar teaching.The national English curriculum standards clearly put forward the task-based languageteaching approach. With the in-depth implementation of new curriculum standards,task-based teaching has been used in all aspects of English teaching, such as listening,reading, speaking and writing, which poses a severe challenge to the traditionalEnglish grammar teaching.Based on Constructivism learning theory, task-based Language TeachingApproach emphasizes using and mastering the language in the communicativeactivities, that is, learning by doing and using by doing. Through the perception,experience, practice, participation, cooperation and exchanges in communicativeclassroom activities, students can achieve the real meaning of the language. Thus thetask-based teaching method can effectively overcome the shortcomings and drawbacksof the traditional English grammar teaching, which is considered to be an effectivemethod to improve students’ ability to use language. However, the use of task-basedteaching method in the class of English Grammar Teaching is rather few. By presentingthe teaching cases and the teaching experiments, the paper demonstrates the effectiveness and feasibility of task-based approach in grammar teaching in order toimprove the efficiency of the English grammar class and change students’ learningmotivation and attitudes to the grammar learning.
