Inquiry learning is an important learning style that is presented by China’s new cycle ofelementary education curriculum reform. It emphasizes the process, comprehensive andsubjectivity of students. In view of the inquiry learning’s feature, developmentalassessment—an evaluation methods that emphasizes on process, on the contents of thecomprehensive, on the diversification of the main features—becomes a complementaryevaluation method.Nowadays, some problems such as the biased evaluation, the one-sided evaluationcontent, the single way of evaluation, the rigid evaluation standard as well as the incompletesubjects of evaluation, still remain in language learning in junior middle school. On thepurpose of solving or avoiding these problems, every step in the evaluation of inquirylearning in junior middle school language learning should be solved.Drafting evaluation goals is a first thing of development assessment in language learningin junior middle school. Evaluation goals play the role of the Consul General of the global inthe entire developmental assessment. Drafting evaluation goals must be based on theprinciple of relevance, comprehensiveness, clarity, feasibility. Truly making the evaluationgoals become the "baton". The evaluation methods should be made according to differentcircumstances. Information is the basis of development evaluation. So the collection ofinformation must be comprehensive and real. Development evaluation is a long-term process.The information need to check again to make sure true. A in-deep reflection should be deedafter evaluation to achieve a better result in the next evaluation. Besides, four types oftendencies should be avoid in the implementation process of developmental assessment.The implementation of developmental assessment in inquiry learning of junior middleschool language learning will not only help students to grasp the direction of inquiry, but alsocan increase the enthusiasm of the students’ inquiry learning. Developmental assessment is aevaluation method that is adapt to the times and tends of education reform.
