As the core of education and the reflection of the philosophy of schooling, acurriculum plays a significant role in the growth of students and the professionaldevelopment of teachers. The key of educational reform lies in the reform of curriculum.However, the curriculum of high schools has remained the same for years. It is time thatwe developed a featured curriculum tailored to the needs of our students, based on therequirements of quality-oriented education. It should be forward-looking, practical andcharacterized in developing students’ capabilities. The development of a featuredcurriculum also symbolizes the management rights of the school.A featured curriculum contributes to the National Curriculum which boosts theeducational democracy and diversification. On one hand, it helps to deepen theeducational reform and the high school curriculum reform. On the other hand, itpromotes the all-around growth of students and the professional development ofteachers to facilitate a thriving school.However, most of the researches about the construction of a featured curriculumhappen in colleges or vocational schools. There is not enough attention on the system ofhigh school curriculum, let alone the research of the objectives and management of thatsystem.The article is based on the research about curriculum carried out in ChongqingNankai Secondary School. It deals with the elements of a featured curriculum includingthe objectives, contents, management and evaluation. The system of curriculum ofChongqing Nankai Secondary School is based on the school motto “Dedication topublic interests and acquisition of all-around ability”. The feature of this curriculum isthe combination of compulsory courses, optional courses and self-taught courses basedon the learning habits of different students. It is also an integration of subject curriculum,activity curriculum and hidden curriculum based on our educational goals.The management of the curriculum system is of great importance. ChongqingNankai Secondary School has accumulated much experience in running the system ofcurriculum including the management of the courses, students, teachers and the process.The article also deals with the assessment of the teaching of some featured courses and the evaluation of the whole featured curriculum system.
