In recent years, the vocational education in China has gained rapid development due to the widespread concern of the community, having a clear positioning and corresponding reforms in many aspects such as system, structure, mechanism and so on. Besides, such a development pattern has been gradually forming that government-leading, enterprise-relying, and all social forces participating in. Along with the speedy development of vocational education, the status of it in people’s minds gradually become equal with the general education, the traditional concept of" A good scholar will make an official" is gradually fading out, which is replaced by the notion of "Technology is the hard truth"However, China has entered a new era of knowledge based-economy, Enterprises have made new demands on the candidate’s competence, requiring comprehensive competence instead of single competence. Faced with these new requirements, higher vocational colleges need to keep up the pace to re-examine the connotation of competence, make comprehensive understanding of the status of competence cultivation and the existing problems, and make effective teaching reform in order to improve the quality of personnel training. Choosing the appropriate evaluation ways to measure and evaluate the competence of higher vocational students to cultivate qualified technical talents for enterprises. This research attempts to compile competence appraisal questionnaire for higher vocational students based on the KOMET Assessment Technology. And, from the19categories majors of higher vocational colleges, I select the sophomore who major in machinery manufacturing and automation major as the objects of this research. Empirical study of competence has been carried out in order to assess these students’ competence. The results will provide an important reference for the correct positioning of students, proper teaching methods and suitable institutions’reform.There are five chapters in this paper. First of all, I have generally introduced the research background, significance, as well as the status of the study and research methods, then, I also defined the related concept of this study. Secondly, from the connotation of the competence, content of evaluation, several common evaluation methods and other aspects, I make the correlation analysis and introduction about the competence assessment of the higher vocational students. Thirdly, specific comments have been made on the KOMET Assessment Technology from the development background and evaluation purposes, model building, evaluation program designing of the KOMET and so on. Moreover, taking Hunan Institute of Mechatronic Technology as an example, choosing the students who major in machinery manufacturing and automation major as the research object to do specific research about the implementation of KOMET Assessment Technology in higher vocational students’evaluation. Finally, I have briefly summarized the contents of this paper, and put forward the new plan for the future study.
