Experienced in the individual selection system, certificateadmission system, American colleges admissions system formed thecomprehensive selection system. After the comprehensive assessmenton students high school grades, college entrance exam score, studyingsubjects during high school, letters of recommendation, autobiography,the thesis and personal data, college decided whether to hire forapplicants. But, United States practise decentralization, states havetheir own education administration, the course content, teachingrequirements, the subjects openned are all different. Therefore, thenational unified, the most widely used university entrance exam-standard SAT grade becomes very important in college admissionsprogress. SAT subject test scores, which are the measures of students inparticular disciplines, also became the open sesame of the first-classuniversity. As history subject became American core curriculum, moreand more students choose to attend the SAT-Ⅱ(history)exam.Uses the theory of history and pedagogy, this paper roughlyintroduces American SAT exam and the basic situation of SAT subjecttest. Based on the Quanzhen questions of the SAT World History andAmerican History, I obtain the results of the SAT history tests’characteristics and its revelation to us. How are SAT history exams testthe history knowledge, what historical thinking ability they test, how toimprove the quality of history examination, the target of theexamination, the best form of the examination management system,and how to realize the scientific development view of the exam.This paper composes the introduction and text. The introductionincludes the main research significance, the research papers werereviewed, research methods and innovative points. Text includes three parts: the first part is the introduction of the SAT exam、SAT subject testand history test conditions; The second part analyze the SAT historytests’ characteristics; Part three discusses the enlightenment the SAThistory tests leave to us.The results of this study show that,as the worlds most successfulexam, SAT tests’ experience and desirable place worth us to deliberate.We have to enlarge the test scope, study up on the ability on historycourse reasonably, and exert the function of choice-questionefficiently.However, American university admission system is different toour country, we cannot copy the model of the SAT history tests to theuniversity entrance exam of history of our country directly.
