To Develop Students Through Improving The Language Ability

Classes are the main field where students gain knowledge,and above 70 percent class activities depend on the textbook,so compiling a special writing textbook will have an influence on the efficiency of teaching and learning in writing.Maybe lack of writing textbook is one of the main reasons that lead to poor efficiency.Therefore,we take Glencoe's writing textbook,Writer's Choice: Grammar and Composition,as a case to gain the ideas and methods of compiling textbooks in America and hope it will be helpful to our writing teaching.The curriculum standard reflects,inherently,the students' learning outcomes which the society thinks they should achieve.In the first chapter, through analyzing curriculum standards which are enacted by several states and NCTE&IRA,we find that cultivating students' thinking ability,improving students' expression and enhancing their communicative ability are their three value orientations.In fact,cultivating talents run through curriculum standards, in short,to realize students' all-round development through improving their language ability.To achieve the goal of 'developing students through improving their language ability,' the presses publish special,reasonable and flexible writing textbooks.Because we are used to compiling writing and reading textbook wholly,in the second chapter,we present three versions of writing textbooks from Houghton Mifflin,Harcourt Education and Pearson Education,to explain the independent form of compiling specifically.Then we analyze the textbook Writer's Choice:Grammar and Composition,wholly and deeply,in three dimensions,namely contents, structure and presentation,and explore how it develops students comprehensively through improving their language ability.The stone of other mountains can be used to polish one's own jade.To change the poor efficiency of writing teaching in China,the independent textbook of writing which should improve students' writing skills they need should be compiled.To a large extent,the textbook determines teaching objectives,the teaching contents,teaching methods and teaching media, writing teaching should be based on the principle of exerting the social function of writing better.
