Sport is a sign of social development and human civilization. The level of our sport’sdevelopment displays a national comprehensive strength and social civilization level.Competitive sports industry is an important part of the sports industry. To further develop thecompetitive sports industry has an important significance for optimizing the economicstructure of countries and regions, developing related industries. This paper takes industrialeconomics, micro economics, and property right economics as theoretical guidance. Thepaper describes the concept of competitive sports industry, analyzed the composition of themarket of competitive sports and competitive sports consumption characteristics, influencingfactors, as well as competitive sports property; summarized the models,characteristics andinspiration of the development of international sports industry,which has some theoreticalvalue for enriching competitive sports industry. Empirical researches on competitive sportsindustry development in Shandong Province analyzed the present situation, influencingfactors, problems and come up with pertinent suggestions, which has a certainly significancein promoting the development of Shandong competitive sports industry.This paper studies the following conclusions:First, competitive sports industry means activities which to provide the services andproducts of competitive sports, for the public and a collection of activities associated withthese activities, including sports competition, the sporting goods industry, stadiumconstruction and operation industry, sports intermediation, the sports media and sports gamingindustry. Sports competition industry which provides competitive sports service is the core ofthe competitive sports industry. Competitive sports market is the sum of the competitivesports products business and the exchange relationship. According to the difference ofcompetitive sports products, competitive sports market can be divided into competitive sportsservice product market, competitive sports lottery market, competitive sports tourism market,competitive sporting goods market, competitive sports stadium construction and operation ofthe market.Secondly, the consumption of competitive sports refers to the expenditures of watchingcompetitive sports, mainly buying sports products paid in the currency, such as buying ticketsto watch sport games. Competitive sports consumption is the consumption of life, and most ofthe competitive sports consumption belongs to spiritual and cultural consumption in the consumption of service, which is decided by the nature of competitive sports products. Themain characteristics of competitive sports are as follows: non-urgency, ability difference,impulse, unbalanced civilization progresses. The factors influencing competitive sportsconsumption include the income of consumer, the price of competition sports product, leisuretime, the price of alternatives, and economic development, social culture, and the urbanizationlevel, the event organized by the ability of external factors.Thirdly, foreign sports industry development mode of market dominant and governmentinvolvement in two kind of types. Review on foreign sports industry development, hasbecome a new economic growth point, different countries in the development of key areselected, and the sports intermediary organizations increasingly prominent role. Draw lessonsfrom foreign sports industry development experience, should be the new growth point of thenational economy highly competitive sports industry development strategy planning, go underthe guidance of the government in market development, not to move or retreat to implementgradient development strategy, take a variety of forms of ownership to develop competitivesports industry policy.Fourthly, the influencing factors of the competitive sports’ development are the systemenvironment, macroeconomic factors, population factors and the development of China’ssports industry. The problems existing in the development of sports industry in Shandong arein the following areas: the sports industry structure is not reasonable enough; the developmentof the sports industry in the region is not balanced; and the trade monopoly sets up barriers. Inorder to promote the development of competitive sports, we should strengthen the socialinvestment, guide sports consumption; strengthening the introduction of major competitionsto drive the development of relevant industry; optimize the competitive sports industrialstructure; promote and balance the regional sports industry, and set competitive sportsorganization and management separately.
