Teachers are both disseminators of human culture and constructors of spiritualcivilization. They are expected to vitalize education through which the national rejuvenationcan be finally realized. As far as teachers are concerned, their professional ethics plays asubstantially vital role in this process.Actually, the professional ethics of teachers directly means the code of conductregulating and governing teachers’ behaviors in education and teaching. Its performance notonly determines teachers’ attitudes and inputs to their jobs and impacts their teachingachievements, but influences the study and growth of students and even affects their wholelife as well. Therefore, the ethical construction of middle school teachers in the rural areasshall be stepped up in order to meet the needs of new socialist countryside construction whichis under the way in present China, deepen the reform in quality-oriented education, handle thelack-of-morality issue and turn as many "left-behind" children as possible into qualifiedpersonnel.Survey shows excellent qualities of the current professional morality of rural middleschool teachers on the whole, this paper enumerates a host of problems mainly worrying therural middle school teachers as follows, namely, lack of loyalty to their posts and devotion totheir profession, no sense of responsibility, no care or love on students, emphasizingimparting knowledge while neglecting educating people, paying little attention to the growthof students, indifference to public image, unawareness of their exemplary roles as teachers,crazy pursuit of their personal benefits, etc. Furthermore, this paper conducts a subjective andobjective analysis of the factors causing such problems. Subjectively speaking, those teachershave relatively poor personal qualities. Objectively, they are deeply influenced by theunsound social environment, the rapid but unbalanced economic development, the imperfectinstitutional construction of schools and the negative elements of traditional culture. Startingfrom the reality, this paper puts forward a series of countermeasures after a careful study ofthe concurrent situation of professional ethics of rural middle school teachers. Ideologically,the socialist core value system shall be the dominant principle to guide the ethicalconstruction of teachers. Teachers’ economic conditions shall be accordingly improved tosatisfy their material demand. Greater efforts shall be made to purity the environment of teaching and education so as to meet teachers’ cultural demand. Further steps shall be takento strengthen the assessment and supervision of professional ethics and accelerateinstitutional construction In addition; teachers shall be ethically strict with themselves.The ethical construction of teachers is a complete systematic project. Their ethicalelevation needs a certain period of time and can’t be done at one go. By this means, adesirable result can be achieved. The author hopes that this paper can provide usefulreference for the ethical construction of middle school teachers in the vast rural areas and beconducive to the sound and sustainable development of the rural educational undertakings.
