A long-range development plan should be based on education while the education plan should be teacher-centered. Teachers’quality is an important and profound fector to affect the education and China’s development. Normal universities play a significant role in cultivating teachers while two majors, Computer Science and Technology and Educational Technology, for a longtime, cultivate IT teachers for middle schools.Compared with mathematics teachers, physics teachers and chemistry teachers, IT teachers’professionalism is not enough, because there are many problems such as lack of a rational set of courses that can meet the requirements for teachers by High School Information Technology Curriculum Standards and dual training goal in the cultivation process. And the professional cordiality of teachers fostered primarily by these two majors was often weak, which doesn’t match the qualities needed for IT teachers in middle schools. The original cultivating modes easily leads to vocational slackness when struggling to cope with middle schools’teaching tasks, which has a negative influence on both students’professional development and the implement of the IT courses.The quality of IT teachers should be guaranteed by a professional cultivating mode as it is a profession that required by society. Moreover, the policy of free education for future teachers has ensured the quality of enrollments for normal universities, and need them to be middle school teachers. The students majoring in Computer Science and Technology and Educational Technology must become middle school IT teachers. So it is absolutely necessary to think over how to cultivate IT teachers and construct the majors for IT education in normal university.In order to expound the necessity of constructing IT education specialty and propose some practical advices, this article is based on nearly half a year’s investigation and study of the middle school IT teachers’practical work. We think that the abilities required by middle school IT teachers are solid classroom teaching ability, comprehensive professional technical ability, the ability of tracking new technology and self-learning and cooperation and communication. At the same time, the author generalize the deficiency existing in normal universities’cultivating plans:lack of a uniform and pertinent cultivating plan, unclear cultivating objects, lack of discipline characteristics and students’competitiveness, the outdated courses, lower professional cordiality and so on.Aiming at change the related problems, this article provides some practical advices on constructing IT education specialty, such as clear positioning and building feature majors for no tuition fee normal college students, constructing a rational curriculum. It also proposes some actions such as strengthening normal education characteristics, improving courses on teaching theory, adjusting major courses and paying close attention to cultivate IT skills, and enhancing the students’professional feelings and cordiality, cooperating with middle schools to carry out the education practice.This article involves some thoughts and advices about cultivating IT teachers in normal university based on the author’s own learning, practice and investigation, hoping to promote IT teachers’professional training and rapid development of IT education through constructing the IT education major.
