In order to improve the quality and level of China’s education, to cultivate talents who develop in an all-round way, new curriculum reform has been implemented in China in accordance with the needs of the era and the society and corresponding new curriculum standard for every specific subject has been formulated. The fine arts curriculum standard has set general objectives for fine arts teaching in compulsary stage, which requires that the students should participate into the fine arts activities individually or collectively. That is to say, fine arts learning of the elementary schools has been connected up with the world famous theory of "cooperative learning". It shows that "cooperation" has become the necessity of the society gradually, and it began to become the required course of Chinese youngsters. The understanding of teachers towards the application of cooperative learning in elementary school arts teaching attaches great importance to both the implementation of cooperative learning and the teaching effects. Then how should elementary school teachers implement the new curriculum standard in specific teaching process, how should they actively conduct students to participate into classroom activities and study arts through cooperative way and how should they cultivate their cooperative competence? These are factors they should take into consideration when they apply cooperative learning strategy to teach fine arts. Fine arts discipline itself has characteristics different from other subjects, that is to say, it has its uniqueness. As the basic module of the compulsory art teaching stage, because of the age characteristics of students together with the characteristics of the discipline itself, elementary school teaching inevitably bears differences in its teaching contents, learning requirements and learning strategies.The reform of fine arts course not only requires the integration and life-orientation of the teraching contents, but also emphasizes teachers’guidance to sutdents in the application of teaching approaches and in the process of art teaching. According to the requirements of new curriculum standard, fine arts teaching aims to guide students to study fine arts independently, cooperatively and exploratively, which goes with the theories of cooperative learning. That is to say, the tenets of cooperative learning accord with the new notion of elementary school fine arts teaching. Therefore, grassroot fine arts teachers should learn the theories of cooperative learning and they should try to adopt this advanced teaching theory in their fine arts teaching.In this thesis, starting from analyzing the uniqueness and development requirements of the fine arts discipline and elementary school fine arts teaching on the basis of applying the fine arts curriculum standard of the compulsory stage, the author explored the relationship between cooperative learning and elementary school fine arts teaching, briefly introduces the basic principles and current development condition of cooperative learning, discusses relationship between the implementation of cooperative learning and the psychological development characters of youngsters and mainly researches the preparation, basic ways, assessment methods and notice of the specific application of cooperative learning into elementary school fine arts teaching. Also in this thesis the author pays great attention to the analysis of elementary school students as well as the current condition of elementary school fine arts teaching, discusses and explores the basic principles of cooperative learning and its specific implementation in elementary school fine arts teaching on the basis of reality. Therefore, it has certain operability and reference value.
