" Ordinary high school curriculum music standard" points out clearly:" music and dance are close sister arts, which would play an important role to enrich students’ experience of art, form a healthy aesthetic temperament and interest, and promote the physical and mental development. In music and dance lessons, not only the dance skill is needed, but also the music perception, experience and comprehensive artistic accomplishment cannot be ignored. So great attention should be paid to the combination of dance and music." From the above words, we can conclude that the goal of establishing ordinary high school" the music and dance" module, is not to cultivate professional dance artists, but to improve the students’overall quality through music perception. This new module brings the enormous challenge to music teachers, on how to introduce dance to the classroom, how to stimulate students’interest in learning music and dance module, and how to grasp the relationship between music and dance during the process. These are questions which should be considered.This paper is to study these issues, organized in four portions:The first part, analysis of current situation in high school dance class, mainly analyses the disadvantages of lacking essential dance knowledge and characteristics which led to the one-sided understanding for teachers from music major, and lacking teaching the art of dance and its are not fully grasp, and too much attention paid to the dance skills which resulting in a poor situation teaching effect for teachers from dance major.The second part, analysis of the high school music book "the music and dance"(PEP edition). Based on the analysis of the six modules, suggestions are presented that the compulsory and elective course proportion should be arranged properly, so that the students can learn some dancing knowledge and skills in music perception, in order to improve their comprehensive quality.The third part, inspection on the high school elective course" music and dance". From the different teaching perspective for dance or music teachers, the conclusions of teaching skills from different professional perspective are made, through the analysis to each cell of the four part of" appreciation"," knowledge"," follow me" and" the practice and innovation". Also a teaching case of "the music and dance" is presented under the author’s own teaching experience.The fourth part, a methodology to compensate for the" music and dance" in teaching the course of deficiency is proposed, according to the author’s own experience and understanding in both dance and music major.Based on the research of the current teaching situation and high school music curriculum standards and textbooks, systematic analysis in" the music and dance" teaching problems, and ideas of how to improve" the music and dance", are proposed. Together with my own experience, a teaching method for " music and dance" class is given. Also analysis is implemented on the advantages and disadvantages in teaching this class for the teachers with different background in dance and music major.
