The fatherly awareness is the attitude of pregnancy, parturition, parenting andparent-child relations, and the self-confidence and the sense of responsibility of newfather, and the evaluation and the emotional experience to the spouse and themselveswhen they become fathers. This study through a combination of qualitative andquantitative research methods to further explore the contradictory or consistentinternal psychological factors of fatherly awareness and father role behavior, as wellas the support attitude and expectations from the internal family and external society.The qualitative study using semi-structured interview, and the interviewee is thefather of3-6years old pre-school children in Lanzhou City, according to the careerthey are engage to workers, intellectuals, cadres, farmers and individual operators.Atotal of10respondents, and randomly interview two fathers in different job. Thequantitative research adopt to questionnaire generated by SangsBiao professor.Using the questionnaire in samples of500fathers of pre-school children from fourPublic kindergarten and a private in Lanzhou City.322valid questionnaires, therecovery was64%.Using the SPSS statistics for the windows13.0, and the internalconsistency reliability is0.553, split-half reliability is0.407.Throught the study of qualitative research, found that the father who held thepositive, welcoming attitude to the newborn baby; Some fathers concerns andwithstand pressures from the economic and energy during their wife was pregnancy,production and growth,but did not show a postpartum depression. The majoritybelieve that their own eligible to be a father. The father are better able to adapt to therole of the father if their childen was born in their plan; During the child was growing,the father need to pay more efforts than mother. In China, The father has been able toaccept "full-time father in their concept, but the idear existed thousands of yearswhich sexist ideology and culture does not allow the father loss of the breadwinnerrole; fathers have been able to realize that the child is a separate entity, not the privateproperty of parents; the fathers who lack accompany and interact with their childrendid not realize their important role during the children growing up; hit the child is still one of the punishment for the Chinese father; relative of family support, the fatherhave higher expectations to social support.The quantitative research results show that the father’s occupation and level ofcultural has significant impact on fatherly awareness, and child age and gender havenot significant impact; most fathers have higher level of fatherly awareness.
