This study firstly aims to investigate the performance evaluation of the teachersin the research-oriented universities under the analysis on the conception and natureof performance evaluation. This study also aims to probe the reasons that cause theteachers in the research-oriented universities pay too much attention on scientificresearch at the cost of ignorance teaching affair, with the help of the nature ofuniversity, such current relevant theories as self-efficacy,360theory, human natureassumption theory.With the comparison of the current performance evaluation of Americanresearch-oriented universities giving the priority on the teaching capacity, this studytakes one research-oriented university at home as subject. This study makes aninterview on the teachers, according to the classification of the teachers onresearch-oriented universities, the teachers on teaching and the teachers on research aswell as teaching, so as to probe the various key points and their relevant weightcoefficient under the different standards of teaching performance evaluation. Inaddition, this study establishes an AHP model following the data from the interviewswith the hope of construction a teaching performance evaluation with a concrete indexabout Chinese Research-oriented universities.It is true that Chinese Research-oriented universities should update andconsolidate their double capacity of researching and teaching, however,it isimpossible that a win-win environment of researching and teaching allowing theteachers underestimating their teaching duty. Here, this study provides somesuggestions. First, making the conception of performance evaluation more clear, andgiving the teachers more authority on teaching performance evaluation. Second, aqualified teaching performance evaluation could embody the value of teachingpriority, by virtue of evaluation of students and co lleagues. Third, the understandingof the human nature assumption theory on teaching performance evaluation. Fifth,making a good use of the teaching performance evaluation in ChineseResearch-oriented universities between the university governors and the teachers,analyzing results for several times, and changing it into a tool which makes the newteachers grow up quickly in their teaching affairs.
