University has three central missions:education, research, and service among which education is the most fundamental mission. The educational quality of universities is the lifeline of higher education. Although university rankings have been initiated and developed quickly in recent years, the ranking and evaluation of educational quality remains spiny. The indicators are the principal issue when evaluating the educational quality of universities.This study focus on the undergraduate educational related indicators in university rankings, and aims at solving two main research questions: What on earth are the undergraduate educational related indicators used in these university rankings? What are the features and quality of these undergraduate educational related indicators?First of all, we searched and selected305undergraduate educational related indicators from22university rankings and made a comprehensive classification system of these indicators.Secondly, based on several classic evaluation principles of the quality of educational indicators, we designed and constructed an operational analytic framework of undergraduate educational related indicators which includes seven dimensions named quality relativity, coverage, economical efficiency, timeliness, domestic comparability and international comparability.At last, we used literature reviews to deeply evaluate the quality of these indicators in order to give some useful suggestions about selecting and developing new and valuable undergraduate educational indicators in the future ranking practice.
