With the rapid advance of modern society, people are in more frequent contact withone another. Therefore, oral communication, as a means of communication, is ofparticular importance. In the last ten years, oral communication has become a part ofclass teaching under the guidance of new curriculum reform in many areas, which is agreat achievement. For rural high school, however, there is a great difference betweenpractice and theory. So how to improve students’ oral communication is an urgentproblem that needs to be solved immediately.The essay, taking the present situation of oral communication teaching and personalteaching experience into account, mainly focuses on students and teachers and acquiredetailed knowledge of oral communication teaching by questionnaires and attendingclasses, trying to discover some practical and effective methods to improve the presentsituation and enable more students to become qualified and all-round talents that live upto the expectation of modern society.The essay is illustrated in three parts:1.Oral communication and its teaching.As is known to all, theory can guide practice.We should put characteristics of oral communication top priority if we intend tochange the present teaching situation. Only in this way can teachers arrange theteaching contents properly and achieve the initial teaching aims to improve the skillsof students’ oral communication.2.Meanings and goals of oral communication teaching.They are the motives oftraining and teaching and can direct the teachers and arouse the students’ interest.3.The strategy of fostering the skills.Chinese teachers play a key role in improvingthe present teaching situation, because of which Chinese teachers should constantlyseek the strategy in order to arouse students’ interest and improve students’ skills oforal communication.
