Golf, also referred as “golf sports”, has become a sport event in China since theestablishment of the Golf Club Association in1980s. As the cultural connotations in golf arequite similar to the traditional ones of China, this sport has been well received by people. Golfhas been known as “sports for the elite” for the high requirements of the field, equipments andfees to play. In recent years, the study of golf has been on the spot light in the academic field. There are theoretical studies of culture and etiquette and the field study of the site andequipments as well. Among those studies, this event has been regarded as either ‘spiritualopium’ and or ‘gentlemen sport’ and constantly criticized for the occupation of farmland. From those criticisms to the rapid development of golf today, there seems to be a ‘chickenribs’ effect in academic field, that is people can hardly do any research but each of them hassome points anyway. With the worldwide trend of golf from ‘sport for the elite’ to ‘sport for mass’ and thedevelopment of our economy, the systematic study of features of participants of golf not onlyboost the development of golf but also ensure the participants in golf are mysterious andmistaken no more. This study is constructed through literature review, questionare and MathematicalStatistics Method. With the favorable conditions of my work, this paper conducts a samplesurvey to200regular members and100VIPs of the Jingyuetan Golf Club in Changchun, andanalyses the basic features of the two samples.Result:There is no significant difference between the regular and vip members in terms ofoccupation, age, income, gender, marital status and spare time, etc. With comparing the twosamples, the result shows that there is no sociological difference between the two groups interms of sports experience and sports value. The statistic result shows that there is asignificant difference between the two samples about their knowledge of golf, frequency, motive and way of participation, the understanding of golf culture and expected gains, etc.
