The reform and development of our country is now in a critical period. Weface the rare strategic opportunity and meanwhile, various contradictions wouldinevitably appear due to the breakthrough of the reform of economic andpolitical system as well as the adjustment of the interest relationship, making ourcurrent society is in a prominent time of contradictions. As an important elementof the society, colleges and universities draw people’s attention to their securityand stability. In recent years, college and university emergencies occurfrequently, causing the instability of campus. Therefore, it is of greatsignificance to build and perfect the mechanism of emergency management incolleges and universities. Through a lot of reading, the author summarizesproblems on emergency management of Chinese universities such as teachers’and students’ lack of safety concept, the lack of emergency practice, weaksystem construction of university emergency management and deficit inorganizational system. In addition, emergency response mode has lagged behind,the information communication mechanism of emergency management isimperfect and also a small number of college counselor with low degree ofspecialization. Hence, there are six significant areas to improve the presentsituation, including the prevention mechanism, decision-making mechanism, security mechanism, psychological intervention mechanism, informationdissemination mechanism and recovery mechanism. Furthermore, strategies toimprove the college emergency management should be come up with, which canreduce the costs of school’s response to emergencies and can be bettermaintaining the normal operation of the college and healthy development inorder to create a safe, stable and harmonious campus environment.
