The reform and development of our country is now in a critical period, facing the rarestrategic opportunity and meanwhile, various contradictions would inevitably appear due tothe breakthrough of the reform of economic and political system as well as the adjustment ofthe various interests, making our current society in a prominent time of contradictions. As animportant element of the society, colleges and universities draw people’s attention to theirsecurity and stability. In recent years, college and university emergencies occur frequently,causing the instability on campus. Therefore, it is of great significance to build and perfect themechanism of emergency management in colleges and universities. Through a lot of reading,the author summarizes problems on emergency management of Chinese universities: teachers’and students’ lack of safety concept, the lack of emergency practice, weak systemconstruction of university emergency management and deficit in organizational system. Inaddition, emergency response mode has lagged behind, the information communicationmechanism of emergency management is imperfect; there are just a small number of collegecounselor with low degree of specialization. Hence, it is significant to improve the preventionmechanism, decision-making mechanism, security mechanism, psychological interventionmechanism, information dissemination mechanism and recovery mechanism six areas toimprove the present situation. Furthermore, strategies to improve the college emergencymanagement should be come up with, thereby reducing the costs of school’s response toemergencies and better maintaining the normal operation of the college and healthydevelopment to create a safe, stable and harmonious campus environment.
