Urban development and urban construction constitutes the theme of urbandevelopment in China, it not only marked the adjustment of the economicenvironment, but also means that the transformation of the social space. Since the1990s, at the same time of continued to expand outside the city to spread intosuccession of surrounding villages, cities also began to promote the large-scale urbanreconstruction. Accompanied by this strongly government-led, large-scale,high-intensity, fast urban renewal campaign is the restructuring of China’s socialstructure, thus created many social problems and contradictions. With the accelerateddevelopment of China’s cities, the social problems and contradictions were graduallygrowing.By the upgrading and changing of the Yangzi road, this article intended torender the profound contradictions during the transformation of their political, economic and social structure of China cities. As of part of the market-orientedGovernment-led urban reconstruction, Yangzi road began its overall upgrading. Ofthe reason of the smoothly commenced and continued implementation of Yangziroad reconstruction, one is urban land institutions that based on common ownershipof land, the other is the government with a strong capacity for mobilization, implementation and intervention in blocks transformation. In the need to seekeconomic development, increase revenue, and to shape the image of the city, marketcoerced the government to promote the transformation of Yangzi Road. Thetransformation of Yangzi Road means not only the improvement of infrastructure, demolition of dilapidated shops and residence, updating of the modern businessenvironment, this process also reshaped the social spatial structure of this area.Traditional Yangzi road has always been an ordered life and prosperousbusiness environment in the area side by side, constitute a neighborhood publicspace. After the reconstruction of the block started, a large number of residents havebeen moved out, the original community of life destructed, and as the reconstruction progressed on, business environment kept expanding, economic developmentbecame the main line of the development of Yangzi road, thus gradually leading tothe eroding of the basis of publicity and the disintegrating of public structures.Over-commercialization of the Yangzi Road blocks resulting in that the localhouseholds have a steady trend of outflow, while the replacement came in is thefrequently floating population. In the post-“danwei” time, the already weakcommunity-building is also unable to assume the responsibilities to organize people, and atomized society is more powerless to stop the erosion by market forces. Thereconstruction and upgrading of Yangzi road has changed the patterns of blocks, abandoned the traditional business culture, thereby undermining the organic linksbetween markets and society, this not only brought the barriers to communitybuilding, the economic development of the Yangzi road business also haverestrictions. With the development of Yangtze road construction standstill, thegovernment found that it is difficult to choose appropriate solutions, the marketselected to transfer to other places, community development is still limping along, and Yangzi road caught in a deadlock over the road to revival. In the history practice of urban reconstruction of China cities, most of them areled by the government, to large, fast, high strength of transformation models. Underthe "collusion" of the government and market, the social forces appears to be tooweak and unable to fight them. In constructing a socialist harmonious society asChina’s strategic goals for social development today, the social construction inofficial discourse and institutional practice gained wide attention. How to get thebalance between economic development and the construction of society in theprocess of urban development, and make the state, market and society that balancesand positive interaction between the three, still subject to further study and practice.
