| This thesis is mainly focused on the assessment of How science works in th e General Certificate of Secondary Education chemistry examination. The General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) that the United Kingdom students take part in when they are at16,is the final test of compulsory education held by t he national unity, and it is both the graduation test and the consultation for emplo yment and entering a higher education. It is an standards based-on examinationThe GCSE chemistry examination GCSE have put the assessment of How sci ence works into practice after several reform. This thesis is divided into four part s. The first part is a general introduction of education system and GCSE in the United Kingdom. Then analyses the assessment of How science works in the Gen eral Certificate of Secondary Eduacation chemistry examination based on the nati onal curriculum and GCSE subject criteria for science published by Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. The third and fourth parts are based on the specificati on and question papers published by AQA.The study draws the following conclusions:the framework of assessment of How science works is efficient. How science works is considered as data, evidenc e, theories and explanations, practical and enquiry skills, communication skills, a pplications and implications of science. GCSE specification in chemistry allocates75%to external assessment and25%to centre-assessed unit. The investigative ski lls assignment and practical skills assessment belong to centre-assessed unit.The s pecification and question papers published by AQA take the skills, knowledge and understanding of How science works into consideration.Based on the above conclusions, hope to provide the beneficial reference and enlightenment of establishing China’s quality education concept and consistent eval uation and examination system, and exploring the chemical subject capacity exami nation. |
