STS refers to a comprehensive subject involving multiple courses and fields, which dealswith the interrelationship among science, technology and society as well as their application.STS education,as one of the important concepts in the basic education curriculumreform,reflects the spirit of National Plan in long-term Education Reformation andDevelopment (2010~2020). Scientific education should focus on developing and trainingstudents’ participation awareness, integrating science, technology and society, attachingimportance to technical education and students’ value orientation, as well as advocatinglearning with questions in mind and quality education. The Curriculum Standard of GeneralHigh School Physics represents the requirements of the STS education in the orientation,concept, nature, and objectives of the curriculum.By investigating some middle school students, it has been revealed that most studentsknow little about STS education and they are expecting to have more open andcomprehensive classroom teaching. While the contemporary middle school students’ attitudetowards hands-on practical ability is positive, their practical ability is weak. To a certaindegree, students pay attention to social problems related to science and technology, however,they do lack relative knowledge.The investigation of middle school physics teachers reveals that quite a few teachers arenot satisfied with the teaching state, and most of them believe that the students don’t knowmuch about science, technology and society. Many teachers lack available channels to findout the latest achievements and development of science and technology in physics. Someteachers attach little importance to the STS factors in the new teaching materials, and STSeducation is carried out inadequately resulting from the worry of students’ enrollment rate.Based on social demands and the present state of STS education, the paper comes to aconclusion in the requirements about the STS in new curriculum standards of education. Itthoroughly analyses the STS factors in Physics, the updated teaching material, published byPeople’s Education Press, and designs three teaching plans in STS education. It aims tointegrate physical knowledge, practical production and environmental protection to highlight the STS education thoughts and embody exploratory spirits.It can be concluded from the investigation that it will promote the students’ scientificqualities and the teachers’ level of theory and practice to bring STS education into in seniorhigh school physics teaching, with the profound theoretical basis and practical meaning.In the curriculum-Centered Teaching mode, it can promote the modernization anddiversification of physics teaching, bring the social function into full play as well as promotestudents’ comprehensive development, and fulfill their personality.It will be a challenge to put the STS education into practice, and there are also someproblems that teachers might not solve by themselves, like the reform of examination system,how to deal with the relationship between a long-term goal of a student’s life-longdevelopment and a short-term aim of the university entrance examination, etc.
