In the modern society, the university is known as the “Power Station” for thedevelopment of society. In order to enter into the “Power Station”, firstly it must take part inthe admission of universities. The admission system of higher education is one of theimportant parts between university and high school. It is the bridge and the link, andinfluences the higher education students’ quality and secondary school teaching and learning.At present, our higher education is in the popularization stage, more and more people areeager to enter in the universities. Admission opportunities of higher education, especiallystudying in the top of universities become the focus of the people.The United States is a typical local decentralized country. There is no unified nationalcollege admissions system. Harvard University insists on the admission idea of Elitism, setsup comprehensive admission and flexibility admission methods, executes admission policy oftilting the disadvantage groups, recruits talented students from extensive background, createsdiversified campus environment.This paper consists of five parts, the basic content as follows:This quote part contains the research reasons, the research problems, the research status,the research goal, the research significance, the research methods and the important conceptillustration.The First chapter is the history of enrollment system in Harvard University. The historyis divided into Noble orientation, Talent orientation and Socialist orientation, tracing HarvardUniversity enrollment system changes and characteristics in different periods.The Second chapter, from admissions goal, admissions policies, admissions standards,admissions modes and admissions institution in five levels, the system of undergraduateAutonomous admissions analysis the cause of the admissions system such as the governmentindirect intervention, the market effectively regulate, cultural tradition influence, the target ofstudents training and multiple intelligence theory influence.The Third chapter analyses the implementation process and its effect of Autonomousadmissions in Harvard University. From college admissions propaganda process, applicationprocess, read and appraise process, interview process and the admissions process, the authorintroduces its implementation of undergraduate Autonomous enrollment. On this basis of theanalysis of implementation process, the research produces effect and influence from Harvardand other universities, high school and students.The Fourth chapter concludes in the characteristics and problems. It summarizes thecharacteristics of undergraduate autonomous enrolment such as adhering to Elitism, taking comprehensive admission and flexibility admission methods, separating the agencies ofadmission and examination. At the same time, the author reveals the existing problems. Forexample, standard tests are hard to predict the achievement of students in the later university.It is not fair to admit minority groups. The admission increases learning burden and thepressure of completion. The process of admission needs high cost and much time.
