The ministry of education started the latest curriculum reform in2001, theimplementation of the reform puts forward a new request to the student and anew challenge for teachers. In the face of the new changes, teachers shouldupdate knowledge structure in order to satisfy the need of education and helpteachers achieve professional development. And the teacher reading is one of theways to gain Knowledge and promote teacher professional development.However, due to the internal and external factors, teacher reading is not playinga role but is called “Burden” or “Luxury” by many teachers.This study uses survey research methodology, selecting primary andsecondary school teachers in four districts of Dalian as an object of the study.Through questionnaires and interviews, the paper taps out the status of teacherreading activity and identifies problems. At last, countermeasures andsuggestions are put forward to provide theoretical support for the improvementof teacher reading. This study is divided into three parts. In the first part, the background ofthe topic is expatiated at first, followed by the relevant researches at home andabroad which are collected and analyzed in order to find out the starting point ofthis study, and then is the purpose and significance, the theoretical basis of theStudy, the definition of teacher reading based on reading, research methods andresearch process.The second part focuses on the investigation and the analysis on the statusof teacher reading. The content of the survey includes: the attitude of teacherreading; the purpose of teacher reading; the forms of teacher reading; theamount of teacher reading; the contents of teacher reading; the methods ofteacher reading and the environment of teacher reading. The survey showed that:the circumstance of teacher reading is optimistic. At the same time, there arestill many problems to be solved.In the third part, the paper puts forward five suggestions according to thesurvey result and the problems existed: insist correct educational concept,enhance the awareness of autonomous learning; improve reading efficiency,form a habit of using time efficiently; build complete knowledge structure, adjust the contents of reading according to the stages of professionaldevelopment; develop reading plans, advocate peer reading, combine withreading, writing and teaching; establish security systems of teacher reading,emphasis the involvement of teacher purchase, ease the burden of teachers.
