The mathematics teaching in secondary vocational school is an organic whole which includes many kinds of education elements such as teacher, student, teaching content, teaching method and teaching evaluation and so on. It is very important to promote the quality education of secondary vocational school students. In recent years, the secondary vocational education develops quickly. The enrollment scale continues to expand, but the quality of students is declining, the students’cultural foundation is weak, and the mathematics foundation is especially poorer. Many of them lack confidence and interest in mathematics learning. At the same time, affected by the traditional teaching concept, the teachers generally lack innovation in teaching method, and the teaching content is seriously out of line with the life and profession, the evaluation method is single, and the evaluation mechanism isn’t perfect and so on. All of these directly affect the overall effect of mathematics teaching in vocational school. Mathematics is a fundamental part of secondary vocational education, so people have made great efforts to update the teaching contents and reform the ways of education. However, there still is little actual effect.In this paper, the author unscrambles the intension and characteristics of mathematics teaching in vocational schools combining with her working experience of many years in mathematics teaching. In the relevant survey and literature research foundation, she analyses the present mathematics teaching situation including of the influence of external and internal environment, teachers’teaching, students’learning the curriculum and teaching materials in our country. Then she discusses the further related reasons. For example, the vocational school does not pay enough attention to the mathematics teaching. Both teachers and students of secondary vocational school lack sufficient knowledge of mathematics teaching and learning. The students’learning foundation in mathematics is weak and they have little interest in mathematics. The teaching content of mathematics is out of line with life and profession. The teachers’teaching methods are not appropriate. The teaching evaluation mechanism is not perfect, etc.Directed against the overall unsatisfactory situation of current, this article put forward the following targeted strategy:Change the traditional concept of mathematics value and teaching. Improve the vocational school students’interest and confidence in learning mathematics by way of improving the relationship between teachers and students, telling mathematical stories and getting the students to experience the beauty of mathematics and the achievement of mathematics learning and so on. Reform the teaching content and structure of vocational mathematics and write school mathematics textbooks. Innovate the mathematics teaching mode and method by using "Situational teaching","Tiered teaching","Heuristic method of teaching" and "Inquiry teaching". Pay more attention to the mathematics teachers team construction in secondary vocational school and strengthen the teachers’ professional On-the-job training, to improve the teachers training mechanism. Perfect the evaluation criteria and system and Encourage students’all-round development and progress by evaluating.
