Emotional Intelligence refers to the ability in processing emotional information and emotional problems. Emotional intelligence of high and low reflects the level of a person’s emotion quality and also reflects the level of ability in processing emotional information. It reveals a person’s potential in mental virtuous circle caused, stimulated and promoted by emotion. Since the proposal of the concept of emotional intelligence, it has increasingly been recognized by people and become a hot research topic in the areas of education, psychology and management, etc. At present, researches on emotional intelligence of higher vocational college students just start and haven’t aroused extensive attention yet, expert researches devoted to the factors that affect the development of emotional intelligence are also few. This study firstly reviewed on the emergence and development history of the concept of emotional intelligence, both domestic and overseas, and introduced the theoretical models and research development of emotional intelligence as well as emotional intelligence scales based on corresponding models, the context also analysed and discussed advantages and disadvantages of different theories and measurement tools. Secondly, this study adopted quantitative research method to investigate and analyse the intelligence development condition of568higher vocational college students by using the Emotional Intelligence Scale(EIS), the Tennessee Self Concept Scale(TSCS)and the Social Support Rating Scale(SSRS), and discussed the predictive value of demographic variables, self-concept, social support on emotional intelligence and also explored the effective psychological intervention measures through qualitative research to improve the level of emotional intelligence of the students.Here are the following conclusions:(1) Higher vocational college students’Emotional Intelligence is above the average with a positive trend. There are some certain differences between the various factors of emotional intelligence, the emotion sense scores lowest among others, it is significantly different compared with three other factors, there is also a remarkable difference in the regulation of the emotions between others and ourselves.(2) Higher vocational college students’emotional intelligence differ significantly from each other in ways of demographic variables such as parenting, classroom management style, whether served as student leaders and so on, and emotion sense are significant different from each other in the aspects of whether they are the only child in their families, age, classroom management style, while Self-adjusting emotion differ from each other in ways of parenting, classroom management style, whether obtained scholarships, whether served as student leaders, regulating other people’s emotion differ significantly from each other in the aspects of classroom management style, whether obtained scholarships, whether served as student leaders, emotional use differ significantly from each other in ways of residence, whether served as student leaders.(3) Some demographic variables interact with each other significantly. Higher vocational college students’emotional intelligence are not so different from each other in the ways of some single factor demographic variables but are significantly different with varying degrees in the aspects of multiple factors interaction. Boys are significantly higher than girls in emotional intelligence in the one-child families. The differences among emotional intelligence of the third year students with different majors are significant. The differences among emotional intelligence of the sports and arts professional students with different grades are significant, the differences among emotional intelligence of students from poor families with different parentings are significant.(4) Ways of parenting, whether served as student leaders, maternal education level have a significant predictive value on emotional intelligence.(5) Emotional intelligence is significantly positively related to self-concept and social support, self-concept, social support can have an effect on emotional intelligence severally and social support can also has an indirect effect on emotional intelligence through self-concept.(6) Demographic variables such as parenting style, whether served as student leaders, maternal education level, self-concept and social support may jointly explain the39.4%of the variance in the emotional intelligence of the higher vocational college students.(7) According to the characteristics of individual emotional intelligence, taking effective educational measures can significantly improve the level of emotional intelligence of higher vocational college students. Finally, on the basis of in-depth analysis and discussion on the development condition and affecting factors of emotional intelligence of higher vocational college students, this study proposed a suggestion for vocational colleges to carry out emotional intelligence education effectively in order to promote the formation of "highly qualified" and "high-skilled" higher vocational students as well as to provide references for future research.
