After the freshmen entering the university environment, the adaptability to the newenvironment is the focus attention of parents, schools and community, this research selects722college students of Shandong Normal University, Shandong University of Traditional ChineseMedicine and the Shandong Vocational College to explore the relationship between emotionalintelligence, social support, and adaptability, as well as designs the training course on the basisof the theory of emotional intelligence for the intervention. We can draw the followingconclusions:(1) The adaptability of freshmen is at the middle level. The adaptability for communicationbehavior of the girls is better than boys; the only child’s life adaptation is better than non-onlychild’s;the students from city perform well than those from city; the undergraduate studentsperform well than the vocational school students on various dimensions of the adaptabilityscale;there are also marked difference between student leaders and non-student leaders.(2) The development of the emotional intelligence is good. Girls’ development is betterthan boys; the differences between only child and non-only child are no remarkable;the studentsfrom city perform well than those from city, especially on the dimensions of emotion perceptionand regulating emotion of other people; the undergraduate students perform well than thevocational school students; student leaders perform well than non-student leaders on thedimensions of emotional intelligence and regulating emotion of other people.(3) The social support of freshmen is at a medium level, the objective support’s score is thelowest. There are no significant difference on social support and its all dimensions between boysand girls; only child and non-only child have significant difference on the total social supportand subjective support dimension; the students from city have more objective support than thosefrom city; the undergraduate students and the vocational school students show the differenceonly on the dimension of objective support; there are also marked difference between studentleaders and non-student leaders.(4) There are significant correlation between emotional intelligence, social support and theadaptability of freshmen. (5) The courses designed according to the theory of emotional intelligence for themaladaptive groups are beneficial for the development of the adaptability and emotionalintelligence.
