As the major instrument for teachers and students in Chinese teachingand learning, Chinese textbooks play an important role in Chinese learning.Therefore, the compilation of Chinese textbooks has a direct influence onstudents’ Chinese learning. As Ye Shengtao Wrote in his book "Ye ShengtaoEducation Essays"believes,“As the main body of textbooks, the textsdetermines the quality of textbooks”,“Textbooks are good if the texts are wellselected”.The modern and contemporary prose is well received by junior highschools in text selection of the Chinese textbooks because of its beautifulwords, deep sentiments, solemn sense of history and dense life atmosphere.The prose writing down the ages all reflect the changes in life or times byexpressing emotions, narrating stories, describing sceneries, or presentingarguments. The usually literary world on the modern prose has its general andnarrow definitions. The prose in its broad sense refers to any literary articlewhich applies ordinary grammatical structure and natural flow of speech ratherthan rhythmic structure, as distinguished from poetry, novels and drama. Apartfrom augmentation or lyric prose, it includes other literary forms such as newsreport, reportorial literature, essays, memoirs and biography. In its narrowsense, the modern prose refers to the artistic prose, a flexible and short literarygenre that is mainly narrative or lyric, drawing from a wide range of materialsand rich both in feeling and writing. This thesis intends to study the text selection of the modern and contemporary literary prose in the Chinesetextbooks for junior high schools published by the Chang Chun Press. Thenew curriculum reform gave rise to the blooming of all kinds of Chinesetextbooks in China, an important breakthrough for Chinese education. In thiscontext, the Chinese textbooks for junior high schools by the Chang ChunPress emerged and have played its part. This thesis tries to study the Chinesetextbooks for junior high schools by the Chang Chun Press (the edition thatwas examined and approved by the National Committee for the Textbooks ofPrimary and Middle Schools in2004). By studying the modern andcontemporary prose in the textbooks, the thesis intends to explore thecharacteristics and changes in the text selection of modern and contemporaryprose in the Chinese textbooks for the junior high schools by the Chang ChunPress under the New Curriculum Standard so as to summarize the importanceof the modern and contemporary prose in the Chinese textbooks for junior highschools and provide necessary feedback for textbook compilers.The thesis consists of five parts: first, the purpose and significance of thisstudy; second, overview of the Chinese textbooks for junior high schoolspublished by the Chang Chun Press; third, the importance of the modern andcontemporary prose in junior high school Chinese; forth, the text selection ofmodern and contemporary prose in the Chinese textbooks for junior highschools by the Chang Chun Press and finally, the reflection on the textselection of the modern and contemporary prose in the Chinese textbooks forjunior high schools by Chang Chun Press. The first part of the24modern andcontemporary prose Changchun version of the junior high school languageteaching materials as the main object, an overview of the significance ofoptimizing the prose text; second part discusses the of Changchun versionpublished in the context of the reform of the eighth language courses juniorhigh schoolthe issue of language teaching materials and use some basicinformation from a holistic perspective on the kit selected text and layoutanalysis; third part of the modern and contemporary prose in the history of literature and materials concept defined from the cultivation of students’languageliteracy and improve students’ language proficiency discusses theimportance of modern and contemporary prose in the secondary language;fourth part, the number of modern and contemporary prose text Changchunversion of the junior high school language teaching materials, the proportion ofdo a note briefly summarizes themodern and contemporary prose text featuresand organized; fifth part, states such as modern and contemporary prose bothexemplary and times, to comply with the acceptance of students selected textby Changchun version of junior high school language textbook Modern andContemporary proseelection paper and thinking.
