Textbook has a very important position in teaching, it’s the way to help teachersand students understand the world around us.The education and economy of thedeveloped countries in Europe and America developed very fast, its ideas andconcepts are all advanced than our country, to compare our general chemistrytextbook with developed countries, we can find out the differences on educationalthought and compilation of teaching materials between the two countries, draw on theadvantages of foreign textbooks, improve the lack of teaching materials in China, soas to provide a reference for the development of teaching materials in our country. This paper, in the context of the education reform, relying on comparativeeducation ideological, using literature, comparative study method and content analysis,we selected two typical Chinese and foreign general chemistry textbook(“NewUniversity Chemistry” and “Chemistry-the central science”) to do comparativestudy. The author compares from both the macro and micro levels, macro level refersto the overall characteristics of textbooks:the textbook’s content settings, architecture, illustration, column setting and exercises, Micro level selected three representativepoints of knowledge: oxidation-reduction reaction, chemical bonds and environmentalChemistry, start from small branches, look and see the whole sceneries, so as to makea better compartion of the advantages and differences of the two sets of textbooks. The study finds:1) The two sets of textbooks adapt to the object consistent, the task of teaching andteaching time substantially the same.2) In the content settings, the scope of knowledge in the two sets of textbooks isbasically the same, but the focus of knowledge is slightly different. The main lineof “New University Chemistry” is chemical principles; while,“Chemistry-thecentral science”emphasis on the use of chemical basics.3) In architecture,“New University Chemistry” has rigorous structure and clear knowledge system, but teaching reflected inadequate.“Chemistry-the centralscience”has rich layers, teaching and tools are much stronger, but the space is toolarge, make it slightly complex.4) In the use of illustrations,“New University Chemistry” has a single illustrationcolor and monotonous forms, but it stands out heavy and difficult knoeledge, reduces the burden on students’ reading.“Chemistry-the central science” hasnumerous illustrations, all have a broad range, but, to a certain extent, can not bewell highlight important difficulties.5) In part of the column setting,“New University Chemistry”emphasises on the useof network knowledge,“Chemistry-the central science”emphasises on the extendof the important chemical knowledge.6) In exercises,“Chemistry-the central science” has a large capacity and a widerange of exercises, highlight the contact with social life;“New UniversityChemistry” has structured exercises set, difficulty suitable, focus on therealization of capacity and emotional values.Through comparative analysis of the two sets of textbooks,I produce of somesuggestions on our chemistry textbook construction:1) Improve the quality of textbook printing and illustration quality.2) A reasonable increase in the teaching materials related settings, establish an opentextbook system.3) Increasing the number of exercises, especially exercises associated with life.4) Focus on teaching materials’ exploratory and practicality.Preparation of teaching materials should be student-centered, grasp thepsychological characteristics of students, reflect the reference value and the ability ofthe textbook.Through the comparative study of two Chinese and foreign generalchemistry textbook, I hope I can inject a new force in our textbooks and provide newideas for similar materials.
