A Theoretical And Empirical Research Of Dalian Football Culture

Modern football was introduced into Dalian by western crew in1905, when Japanese encroached Liaodong Peninsula and forced ports to open up. With the resistance to the colonial culture of the western countries and under the influence of New Culture Movement at the same time, football was deeply loved in Dalian for its unique charm. Football has become a symbol of Dalian after nearly a hundred years of tough development. From the cultural perspective, this paper analyzes the development, evolution and achievement of Dalian football, in order to reveal how Dalian people develop a unique cultural phenomenon by combining this worldwide popular movement with their own cultural identity.According to the extant literature related to Dalian history and culture, this paper studies the historical background of Dalian football development and divides it into five stages, including infancy stage, colonial stage, democratic regime management stag, reform and open-up stage and professional management stage. Regular patterns and characteristics of football culture and its development in Dalian are discussed, based on the connotation elements of football culture, which is a relationship both unitary and opposite among spiritual aspect, institutional level and material aspect.It can be seen from the investigation that (1) in the infancy stage Dalian football culture was characterized by cultural identity;(2)in the colonial stage it was dominant on the spiritual level;(3)in the democratic regime management stage it was dominant on the institutional culture level;(4) in the reform and open-up stage it was prosperous on the spirit level, the system level as well as the material and cultural level;(5) in the professional management stage it was dominant on the material and cultural level.
