The study in primary schools influence students’ further study very much, so English hasbecome more and more important. There are some problems in teaching tasks. The textbooks arenot only the tool of English teaching, but also the media of practicing the New Standard ofEnglish Curriculum. How to use textbooks properly, how to complete the task of teaching, andhow to reach the demands of the New Standard of English Curriculum for teachers and studentsare our urgent problems.Through the investigation, there is a gap between English teaching in primary schools andthe demands of the New Standard of English Curriculum. Teachers often ignore students’interests easily, and are inclined to teach grammars and vocabularies. To some extent, students’comprehensive ability of using language is reduced. The New Standard of English Curriculumadvise that, with students’ living experience, teaching should depend on students’ interests, andlead students study by themselves, or by cooperating or by investigation. By this, students canimprove their comprehensive ability of using language, and form positive attitudes.Through looking up the documents, I get the present study and achievements on textbooks. My questionnaires are based on the investigated school. In view of the school circumstances, Ianalysis my paper from three aspects: textbooks, teachers, and students. For the teachers’ aspect:mastering the New Standard of English Curriculum; improving oral English; grasping theknowledge of other subjects and cultural background knowledge; consolidating professionalknowledge; updating teaching concepts. For the using aspect: creating a language context andteaching the language knowledge; cultivating good habits of listening, and clear the writing rules;advocating self-study and cooperative learning, and completing the reading task; makingstudents play the main role, and carrying on task-based teaching; Gathering backgroundinformation, and cultivating students’ cultural awareness.
