In recent years, the constitution of the elementary and middle school students in China hasshown a downward trend, which has aroused extensive concern in various circles of society. Anumber of measures to improve students’ constitution and health were put forward in NationalSchool Sports Work Conference held in December2006, while developing Sunshine Sportsnationwide was one of the hot issues in the conference.Since the beginning of2007, the Communist Youth League Central Committee, theMinistry of Education and the State General Administration of Sport jointly have decided towidely and deeply carry out nationwide hundreds of millions of students Sunshine Sports innational all types schools, to ensure that daily physical exercise time of every primary andsecondary school student will be not less than one hour, which also made more sports find newdevelopment opportunities in primary and secondary schools.Sunshine Sports is conducted to promote students to participate in sports actively, developthe habit of regular exercise and effectively improve the level of physical health. However, lackof physical exercise awareness and exercise interest, excessive pressure of study andemployment and unhealthy lifestyles limit the development of Sunshine Sports.In order to enable students to get rid of the past single school sports, more and more sportshave begun to enter the primary and secondary school and been the favorite of students, whileTaekwondo can not only exercise their coordination stability, but also enhance the constitutionof students that they first would rather first learn the strict etiquette and five credenda of"FELL","Honor","patience","self-denial" and " indomitable " before learn Taekwondotechniques. They should bow to the coach and their companions one by one before and after thepractice, while phonation and shout of Taekwondo can also be conducive to helping childrenovercome shyness and increase self-confidence. As a result, Taekwondo can not only enhancethe physical quality of the students, but also foster the children’s etiquette and moral trainingwhile helping primary and secondary students under excessive study pressure relieve thepressure in reasonable and healthy way.This article conducts research on present situation of Taekwondo in primary and secondaryschools in Jinan City by the way of literature, questionnaire, expert interview, and mathematical statistics in order to explore the research on development significance of taekwondo in primaryand secondary schools.Learned through the investigation: the current physical education curriculum in primary andsecondary schools in Jinan City shows a diversified development trend. It is found that30%ofprimary and secondary schools have provided the hobby class of Taekwondo, with no schooltaking taekwondo as a school-based curriculum and that Taekwondo is a favorite of high degreewith the primary and secondary school students, with25%of students having practiced orcontacted Taekwondo, which shows that taekwondo introduction to primary and secondaryschools meets the needs of students and has a certain rationality.Most of the PE teachers and students of primary and secondary schools in Jinan City have ahigh degree of awareness of the Taekwondo, which has been generally recognized in the valueof physical and mental development for primary and secondary students. Meanwhile,taekwondo also has its own advantages in the entry to the primary and secondary schools, suchas: feasibility of class venues and facilities, intense demand of students, easy action to learn,high security; Disadvantages include: low support of school leaders for schools Taekwondo,shortage of teachers and the lack of a unified textbook.Development significance: today of rapid society development, monotonous and boringcontent of courses and teaching methods can not meet the needs of students. Following greatimportance to current students’ overall qualities and personality traits, PE curriculum reform hasbeen imperative, while enriching the teaching content and methods and the introduction of newinterest items of students into schools have also been the focus of PE curriculum reform.Teaching content of Taekwondo courses meets the standard of PE and health curriculum,reflects the fitness, entertainment and lifelong term, conforms to PE and health curriculumrequirements and helps to promote the development of students’ physical and mental health. Itis hoped that this article could have good theoretical reference value to promote the reform ofprimary and secondary school PE curriculum by the research of development status quo andsignificance of Tae Kwon Do in physical education of elementary and middle schools in JinanCity.
