College physical education is the last stage of students’ PE learning, which isaimed to stimulate students’ interest in participating in sports actively, cultivate the habitof exercise, establish "health first" thought, raise the consciousness of lifelong physicaleducation, and strengthen the important period of physical and mental healthdevelopment. Therefore, it has extremely vital significance to understand collegestudents’ physical health status.In this study, taking the physical health condition of undergraduate studentsenrolling in Soochow University in2008as an example, based on a lot of methodologysuch as referring to related physical fitness test books, documents and literature,mathematical statistics, comparative analysis, logical induction, the indexes of physicalhealth standard of5063students were chosen, and the development and change ofstudents during the four years in terms of body shape, body function, body quality,general performance in "physical health standard" and compliance rate were underdynamic analysis.According to four years’ health condition of undergraduate students enrolling inSoochow University in2008, results have shown that:1) the level of physicaldevelopment of college students in the university for four years decline generally, andthe situation is not optimistic. To be specific, the height and weight of male studentsexperienced a slow growth trend, but the rate of obesity has increased. In contrast, theheight of female students experienced a slow growth, but the weight and BMI indexdecreased year by year. Therefore, the ratio of light-weight female students increased;2)the body function of college students for the four years has increased overall and is in good condition. Lung capacity and vital capacity height index of male students showedan increasing trend with increasing grade, while lung capacity, vital capacity heightindex and vital capacity weight index of female students increased with increasing grade;3) physical quality level of college students in the university for four years witnessed anoverall downward trend, especially their endurance, explosive force, flexibilitydecreased significantly;4) the overall conformity rate of "physical health standard" isgood, but the level is below good and just above passing grade, and the excellent rate islow; the passing rate of the males students for four years has increased, but excellentand good rates were low and decreased year by year. the passing rate of female studentsfirst increased and then decreased, and the excellent and good rates shared the samepattern, and the excellent rate was low. The overall excellent rand good rates of both themale and female students in the3rdand4thyear were lower than that in the1stand2ndyear, but the passing rate is higher than that of the1stand2ndyear.Suggestion are as follows:1) Universities should focus on and reinforce theorganizational efforts and execution of "national student physical health standard",establish the appraisal mechanism between "national student physical health standard"test results, students’ awarding and evaluation work and graduation criteria, guidingstudents to participate in physical exercise consciously and actively, and enhancephysical fitness of college students health level.2) Universities should reinforce publicsports curriculum reform, add teaching materials that will effectively improve thephysical quality of the university students, make "mandatory" requirements in the aspectof teaching hours, testing contents and standards, and strengthen the implementation. Atthe same time, universities should offer elective physical education course to third orfourth year students, increasing time and opportunity for them to exercise.3)Universities should further strengthen the organization and management of theextracurricular sports club or College Students Sports Association, and actively organizesports activities and competitions in various forms, pay attention to guiding students tovoluntarily participate in physical exercise, develop good exercise habits, so that"exercise one hour a day” can be really implemented.4) Due to the university students’"fear of running","fear of hardship", physical qualities such as endurance and strength declined generally. In the classroom teaching, university physical education teachersshould increase the students’ time and intensity in exercises that will improve students’endurance, explosive power and flexibility and other physical quality, improve teachingmethods and means, and effectively improve students’ physical education class learningand the effect and quality of exercise.
