In the process of Chinese novel teaching in present senior high schools, the teaching of text interpretation is a crucial part and its current performance is not optimistic. The existence of certain problems in the process of the teaching of text interpretation leads to the unscientific texts for novel teaching and the low efficiency of novel teaching in senior high school as well. On the one hand, studies on literary interpretation of the text of classic novels are fruitful. On the other hand, the contents for text interpretation (text interpretation in the present study) of novel teaching in senior high school are extremely scarce. Based on the above contrast, the study aims to solve the following problems.Firstly, the study proposes the core concept that text interpretation itself is not the same as the teaching of interpretation. The text interpretation of novel teaching in senior high school is special since we should not only follow the priciples of literature but also the priciples of teaching.Secondly, based on The Standard on Course of Chinese Language for Senior High School and its related literary theories, the study dwells on the teaching of interpretation of novel in senior high school from the perspectives of teaching and literature.After reviewing the previous theories, we think that there is still room for improvement. Therefore, the study collects six novels from the PEP edition of Chinese textbooks for senior high schools. By summerizing and analyzing the elements of interpretation in teaching process, we get a clear and comprehensive understanding of the problems existing in the text interpretation of novel teaching in senior high school.Finally, the problems existing in the text interpretation of novel teaching in senior high school are classified into three types:arbitrariness of interpretation, subjectivity of interpretation and superficiality of interpretation. We also give some reflections on the text interpretation in the process of novel teaching in senior high school, hence providing teachers with some enlightenment and improving the efficiency of novel teaching in senior high school.
