In the fully implementing quality-oriented education reform, music education plays an important role in training high-quality innovative talents for the21st century. Because of limitation on music equipment, teaching music is hard to carry on and improve in traditional ways. In recent years, with the development of multimedia and computer technology, music education meets great opportunities for further development based on the achievement of information technology. However, because of the limitations of music discipline itself and the special demand on music teaching and learning researches in the cross field of combining information technology and music disciplines face some new problems. It’s hard to use the latest music teaching theory guide the teaching practice. Therefore, traditional talking or singing is dominated in teaching method of music education. The purpose of this thesis is to design a novel assistant tool for music teaching base on a multi-sensory teaching theory, which aim to not only help change teachers’ teaching concept and improve the efficiency of the music teaching but also try to excite students’ auditory sense, vision and sense of touch, further increase the students’ sensibility on the music. This thesis adopts the thought of modular design, follows the software engineering principles of high cohesion and low coupling and greatly increases the portability and scalability of the music teaching tool. The important innovation of this thesis is adopting the latest WPF development mode and synchronous display including the virtual piano, the sheet and music songs. The research results of the thesis will provide a good reference for designing other virtual instruments of music teaching.
