The key of the effective geography teaching lies in whether students have the ability toform geography subject. The geography subject ability training is not systematic andscientific, thereby the effect is poor. This paper compares the geography subject ability of thedomestic and foreign literature, and puts forward specific and feasible methods, provides atheoretical basis and method for geography teaching in secondary schools.Full text includes three parts: introduction, body and conclusion. The body introduces theresearch, the present situation, and the training methods.The preface clarifies the theoreticaland practical significance of this study, puts forward the research methods as literaturemethod, survey method, and case law.The body consists of three parts. The first part: after reading lots of books and carefulanalysis of relevant literature, conduct comparative analysis of foreign requirement forgeography subject ability, our requirement for geography subject ability in different periodsaccording to the geography curriculum standard, and the major domestic experts andscholars’ requirement. And draw the conclusion that subject ability mainly includes thefollowing four abilities: ability to use map, ability to process geographic information,geographical thinking ability and geography practice ability.The second part: through questionnaire survey among students to understand the currentstatus of geography ability and to systematically analyze geography ability-building problemsand influencing factors in high school. Due to the limitations of time and energy, the surveyonly covers students of six high schools in Zhucheng, Shandong Province.The third part is the focus of this paper. Through a combination of theory and case, beproposed the training methods of ability to use the map, to process geographic information,geo-spatial thinking ability and geographic practice ability, which makes the culture methodmore operable.The conclusion part points out, that geography abilities are not isolated; they affect andpromote each other. In the process of training, they should be considered as an organic wholeto achieve the common development of all abilities. Disadvantages: limited by the studysample, whether the results of the survey can be applied to other provinces and cities, remainsto be further studied. Due to the restriction of time and ability, the ability of the study of geography subject study can only reach the current level.
