Geography ability is the combination of students’ intelligence, ability, and geographical discipline. At present it is recognized that geography subject ability is divided into four aspects. With the geography curriculum reform, the concept of geography ability is gradually paid more attention. Different experts presented some strategies on cultivating high school geography subject ability. Map is considered as the second language in geography teaching. With the development of science and technology, electronic map is an important tool in daily life for its advantages. Using electronic map to cultivate high school geography subject ability will also be improved.With the development of the curriculum reform, the ability of students is becoming more and more important, experts and scholars put forward different opinions on how to improve students’ability in geography subject. It is generally recognized that the geography subject ability contains four aspects:the spatial awareness, the analysis of geographic process, geographic information processing ability and the ability to use geographic knowledge to solve practical problems. With the coming of information society, the electronic map is a more efficient tool compared with the traditional map. Electronic map application in geography teaching is a trend. However, the challenge that how to cultivate the high school geography ability using electronic map still remains to date. In this paper, we summarize the related researches, put forward strategies to raise the high school geography ability based on the electronic map. And we did teaching experiment research in a high where I am working. The selected students were divided into two group, comparative classes and experimental classes, which level are similar. Two classes were taught by using electronic map, instead, the other two classes were taught by using traditional map. It is concluded that application of electronic map could significant improve high school geography ability. Finally, in view of the four aspects of the geography ability, further strategies were summarized based on the use of the electronic map.This article is divided into five chapters.The first chapter (introduction) mainly introduces the research background, research status, research significance, research content, research methods and the structure of the paper.The second part,the relationship with electronic map and geography ability, defining what electronic map is, its classification and function.The third part, the method for improving high school students geography ability based on the electronic map.The forth part, empirical analysis and research. It mainly includes questionnaire design, questionnaire, and analysis the results of the questionnaire.The fifth part, conclusion and prospect.
